Kafeero’s Remains Exhumed After 19 Years as DNA Test Seeks to End 20-Year Paternity Dispute
BUIKWE DISTRICT, Uganda – The remains of legendary Kadongokamu musician, the late Prince Paul Job Kafeero, were exhumed on the morning of June 1, 2026, marking a dramatic turning point in a bitter, two-decade-long family dispute over his estate and heirs.
The operation at his ancestral home in Masaba, Nkokonjeru, Buikwe District—where he was laid to rest in 2007—was carried out under a court order following claims by over 20 individuals who allege to be his children.
Drama Unfolds at the Graveside
Tensions were high during the process. In an unexpected turn, a local resident broke into a self-composed protest song, objecting to the exhumation and branding it “illegal.” Despite the vocal opposition, forensic teams proceeded with the delicate operation.
The remains have since been placed in a new casket ahead of a planned reburial, while DNA samples were collected for scientific analysis.
Professionally Conducted Operation
According to a statement from Hon. Balaam, who is preparing to hand over the Youth and Children Affairs docket, the exhumation was professionally managed by a team of pathologists led by Assistant Inspector General of Police Dr. Byaruhanga.
“The exhumation and sample collection exercise was professionally conducted… in accordance with the court order and established forensic procedures,” Hon. Balaam said.
He further noted that the Government Analytical Laboratory and the Uganda Police Forensic Laboratory will conduct the necessary scientific analysis to provide conclusive facts based on DNA evidence.
A Step Toward Justice and Truth
Hon. Balaam, who described the late Kafeero as his friend, revealed that he fully facilitated the exercise in the interest of justice, truth, and family harmony.
“Following the successful exhumation of his remains this morning for DNA sampling, a process that has remained unresolved for over 20 years is finally underway. The family has been engaged in a prolonged dispute over this matter, and today marks a major step toward establishing the truth,” he stated.
He thanked the Court, the Kafeero family, Hon. Byaruhanga, and the Uganda Police Force for making the process possible.
“May God bless Uganda, and may the soul of Prince Paul Kafeero continue to rest in eternal peace,” Hon. Balaam added, quoting Luke 12:2: “There is nothing concealed that will not be disclosed, or hidden that will not be made known.”
