PEP GUARDIOLA TO LEAVE MANCHESTER CITY AFTER SUNDAY’S FINAL MATCH, CLUB TO NAME STAND IN HIS HONOR
MANCHESTER – Pep Guardiola will step down as Manchester City manager following Sunday’s Premier League clash against Aston Villa, bringing a remarkable 10-year tenure at the Etihad to a close, the club has confirmed.
The 54-year-old Spaniard departs with 20 major trophies to his name, including six Premier League titles, a historic Champions League triumph, as well as this season’s FA Cup and League Cup.
In a farewell message, Guardiola struck an emotional tone: “Nothing is eternal. But eternal will be the feeling, the people, the memories, and the love I have for Manchester City.”
City has announced that the club’s new north stand will be named in his honor, a tribute to the manager who transformed the team into one of European football’s dominant forces.
Guardiola’s final match in charge will see City host Aston Villa on Sunday afternoon. Attention will then quickly turn to finding his successor. Former Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca, currently leading Leicester City to promotion from the Championship, is understood to be among the leading candidates for the role.
Fans have already begun gathering outside the Etihad Stadium to leave messages and scarves ahead of the emotional farewell.
