Lawyers Seek Presidential Pardon for Hon. Anita Among Amid Allegations of Security Interference
KAMPALA, UGANDA — Legal representatives of Bukedea District Woman Member of Parliament, Hon. Anita Among, have come out to challenge what they describe as a wave of falsehoods tarnishing their client’s reputation both locally and internationally.
Speaking to the press, lawyer Fred Mukasa Mbidde disclosed that the legal team is moving swiftly to stay ahead of the unfolding developments and protect their client. Among the strategies being pursued, Mbidde revealed that they have requested a meeting with President Yoweri Museveni to seek a presidential pardon.
“We are moving very fast so that we are on top of the game to save our client,” Mbidde said. He noted that the President has previously extended pardons to other government officials suspected of mismanaging taxpayers’ money, and they hope for similar consideration for Hon. Among.
In a broader outreach effort, Mbidde added that the legal team also plans to engage religious and cultural leaders from the Teso sub-region, as well as officials from the Vatican, to help intercede with the President on Among’s behalf.
Allegations of Security Interference
According to sources close to the presidency, President Museveni is said to be particularly aggrieved following intelligence reports suggesting that Hon. Among had infiltrated the country’s security apparatus. The sources allege that Among had gained control over approximately 80% of district police commanders, intelligence officers, and Resident District Commissioners (RDCs) in various areas.
Further claims indicate that Among was allegedly receiving intelligence reports and issuing orders to shield her allies across different parts of the country, especially during election periods.
The legal team has strongly denied these claims, reiterating that much of the information circulating in the public domain is false and designed to paint a misleading picture of the Bukedea lawmaker.
